Veterinary Technician

SUMMARY  

Veterinary Technicians are responsible for providing support to medical staff and the shelter veterinarian and administering care as appropriate to animals in the Animal Allies Humane Society (AAHS) Adoption Program. Veterinary Technicians are ambassadors of AAHS at all times and shall present themselves in a positive manner during work hours. This individual should have a strong commitment to the mission and vision of Animal Allies Humane Society and be able to work cross-functionally with team members, volunteers and members of the public to create a positive workplace culture.

PURPOSE

The Animal Allies Humane Society's mission is to ensure that every pet has a loving home. Care protocols are not driven by clients but by compassion. We focus on Humane Education, Diversion, and Adoption-driven Capacity to serve Duluth and the surrounding communities. Our Veterinary Technicians work closely with our Shelter Veterinarian to deliver the best in-shelter care and outcomes for pets and people. Animal Allies is recognized as one of the top Adoption Centers for canines and felines in the state and nationally.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

EDUCATION: Veterinary Technician Certification required.

Volunteer opportunities​

  • Direct Animal Care  - Walk dogs, clean kennels, provide enrichment for cats and dogs.

  • Shelter Maintenance - General cleaning, trail maintenance, garden weeding, etc.

  • Join a Committee - Special event committees and development task groups are always in need of driven individuals to lend a helping hand.

  • Assist our Medical Team - Licensed professionals can volunteer with our medical staff assisting with evaluations, direct care, and more.

  • Assist our Admin Team - Data entry, mailing correspondence, grant writing, and event prep assistance positions are available on an at-needs basis.

  • Stuffing Newsletters - No training required!  Help put The Paw Print newsletter into mailboxes each quarter. The project varies from issue to issue, and is a fun and social time to meet and engage with our staff and other volunteers.

Internship and Work Study Program

As a student or young professional an internship or work study experience can help you stand out above your peers. Individuals looking to build their skills and add real-life work experience to their resume are encouraged to apply for the below positions.

Humane Education Internships - Assist with our Humane Education program, classroom visits, and camp sessions.  Email education@animalallies.net for more information.

Volunteer Internships - Help with the behind-the-scenes daily activities and programs surrounding our Volunteer Program. Assist our Volunteer Coordinator with trainings, event volunteer coordination and daily volunteer needs as they arise. Positions are available year round.
