ADOPT

Finding a loving home for every pet

Your new best friend is waiting!

Adopting a shelter dog or cat not only saves a life, it also enriches your own.

When you decide to adopt, you are making a commitment to love and care for your new family member.  Please double check with your housing before adopting, and make sure all of your family members are on board with bringing a new pet into the household (and not allergic).

Dogs and cats can take some time to transition into a new home - please be aware of this, be patient, and willing to work with any challenges that arise; we are here to answer any additional questions that may come up along the way.  Animals often come to us as strays or from other shelters, therefore, we do not always have histories on these animals.  Animal Allies offers resources to help with this transition or you can talk to an adoption counselor about any of your concerns.

To learn more about any of our available pets shown below, call our adoption staff at 218-722-5341. We start answering phones at 10:30am, if you are extremely interested in one specific animal please call early and often as our adoptions are done on first come-first serve basis.

Adoption Center Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 12:00-6:00pm, Sunday 12:00-4:00pm and CLOSED on Mondays.

Once you've decided on an animal, the adoption process will take around 30 minutes to complete.

An adoption counselor will review the animal's behavioral and medical history, discuss animal care and advise you on transitioning the animal into your home.  If you are adopting a cat, you must bring a cat carrier, otherwise we have several options available for purchase.  If you bring a carrier from home, it must have air-holes and a handle to transport the cat safely.  If you are adopting a dog, you must bring a leash and collar or purchase them from our retail section. Our on-site retail section also has food, treats, litterboxes, and more: everything you need to bring your new best friend home.

Common Questions:

Adoption Fees:

Animal Allies has variable adoption fees.

Cats and kittens range from $25 to $225.

Dogs and puppies range from $75 to $525.

Please see the individual pet descriptions for detailed adoption fees and information.

Animal Allies Humane Society accepts cash and VISA/MasterCard/Discover.

Adoption fees are subject to sales tax of 8.875%.

Our adoption fees are based on a number of factors such as age, size, breed, or medical needs.  A higher adoption fee does not mean that we value that particular animal any more than another; it is simply a matter of supply and demand.  Animals that are in higher demand and are adopted quickly have higher adoption fees, which create a financial legacy for the animals who stay in our care for a longer period of time.

Animal Allies' adoption fees include a microchip and registration fee, veterinarian health exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, spaying/neutering, fecal exam, and flea/tick treatments plus heartworm testing for dogs and FeLV/FIV testing for cats.

Dog Adoptions:

In 2020 our entire shelter went through Fear Free Shelter training.  Fear Free sheltering focuses on reducing stress and improving the animals experience in the shelter.  We have significantly changed the way we structure the animals' time and living spaces to reduce stress.  One such decision is to close the dog kennels to visitors.  In doing so, we have seen amazing results including less behavioral issues, quieter and more calm dogs and less bite incidents with the controlled access to the dog kennels.  This results in dogs finding homes faster, getting sick less often and having a much less stressful time while at the shelter.

If you are interested in adopting one of our available dogs, please check in with our adoption staff.
